Cowboy Hall of Fame tickets

The Cowboy Hall of Fame Dinner is the Chamber's way of honoring the spirit of those past and present cowboys who worked to build this area.

The Willcox Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture invites the public to attend the 28th Annual Cowboy Hall of Fame Dinner on Thursday, Sept. 30. The Doors will open at 6 p.m. at the Community Center, 300 W. Stewart. Inductees into the Cowboy Hall of Fame this year are Robert Krentz, Mrs. Terry Burgess and Tom Kuykendall. This year's Master of Ceremonies will be Eddie Browning.

Dinner will be a traditional cowboy fare of steaks and all the "fixings" at a cost of $25 per person. Tickets usually go fast and seating is limited, so please make your reservations early by calling the Willcox Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture at (520) 384-2272.

Rex Allen Days Rodeo Queen

Rex Allen Days is right around the corner. Time to grab your jeans, dust off your hat, shine those boots and try out for Rodeo Queen! We need young ladies between the ages of 16 and 24 who love the "cowboy lifestyle!"

San Simon Archery Day fundraiser

The San Simon Archery Club will be hosting the 1st Annual Green Chili Hamburger Fry and Family Fun Archery Day along with an auction at the San Simon School on Sept. 6, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The benefit will be to help raise money to send Colton Morris, three-time State Archery In The Schools winner and J.D. Cranford, Middle School state winner, along with their coach to the World Tournament in Orlando, Fla. in October.

Adults and kids will compete for prizes using the same type of bows that these young men compete with. There will be many fun games throughout the day, as well as a dunk tank! There will be an auction beginning at 3 p.m., with many archery items, autographed sports memorabilia, and more up for auction.

This event is geared to introduce kids and their parents to the sport of archery as well as the National Archery In The Schools program. For more information, contact 520-507-1285 or 520-845-2280.

Lunch meals for seniors

A lunch meal is served to adults over the age of 60 each Monday through Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. at the NCCH Annex corner of Rex Allen Drive and Bowie Avenue.

We are closed on Friday and all Federal Holidays.

Grief support group begins

Charles W. Leighton, Jr. Hospice will be starting a new eight-session grief support group that is FREE of charge and open to any adult who has lost a loved one. You are not alone - come join us in sharing experiences, healing and hope (a book will be provided). We meet in Willcox, but are also interested in starting a group in the Sunsites area.

Magic Circle Bike Ride Sept. 4

The third annual Magic Circle Bike Ride is just around the corner. On Saturday Sept. 4 the riders will depart Keiller Park for either a 33-mile or 66-mile ride for the more adventure minded.

The ride is staged to benefit the Willcox Chamber of Commerce, The Charles W. Leighton Hospice and The Gale Barton Memorial Scholarship Fund sponsored by American Legion Post 20 of Willcox.

The riders will get to see sights along SR 186. It inclues lunch in Keiller Park after the ride as part of the $30 registration fee.

WHS Class of 1990 reunion Sept. 3-6

The WHS Class of 1990 would like to invite classmates and teachers to celebrate their 20-year class reunion Sept. 3-5.

Friday

Sept. 3 - Friday Night Kick-Off Party at Angela's house, 119 S. Bisbee. Starts at 7 p.m. Bring a chair and BYOB. We will enjoy pizza, beer and good times!

Saturday

Sept. 4 - 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. - Golf Scramble- Twin Lakes Golf Course

Anyone may golf nine holes for $15.50 -- please include your handicap

  • 11 a.m.-3 p.m. - Family Picnic at Twin Lakes Golf Course. We will meet at the golf course at 11 a.m.. There will be a golf scramble, horseshoes, and a tent for us to kick back and enjoy the nice Willcox fall weather. Children are welcome and we will bar-b-que lunch. Those interested in golfing, please RSVP. If we don't get many golfers, we may need to move the picnic to the park, so this is subject to change.

  • 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. - Dinner at Coronado Vineyards. Dinner will be held at Coronado Vineyard with its beautiful views, great food, and of course, wine! This will be the perfect place to catch up with everyone, enjoy '80s music and reminisce about the good ol' days.

  • 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. - After Dinner Party at Rix's Tavern. We will be getting our groove on at Rix's with a DJ. Open to public for some dancing and fun!

    Advisors for adult center wanted

    The Learning Center at NCCH is seeking letters of interest from older adults (age 60 and over) willing to volunteer as members of a Community Advisory Council.

    Community Council Members will volunteer with community leaders and hospital staff to provide input and support for the operation of the Learning Center.

    Letters are due by Wednesday, Sept. 1. Meetings will be held three times per year. Term lengths to be determined.

    Community Advisory Council meetings will be held at the hospital.

    Nominate Favorite Son/Daughter

    Nominations for Willcox's Favorite Son/Daughter awards due Friday, Sept. 3.

    Either a favorite in-town or out-of-town son /daughter award will be out given at the Willcox Cowboy Hall of Fame banquet at the start of Rex Allen Days, Thursday, Sept. 30.

    Nominations forms may be picked up at the Arizona Range News and returned by Friday, Sept. 3.

    In-town favorite son/daughter award qualifications:

    1) Was born in Willcox

    2) Graduated from the eighth grade in Willcox

    3) Attended school in Willcox for majority of elementary/high school

    4) Graduated from high school in Willcox

    And:

  • Has consistently lived in Willcox

  • Is a Willcox supporter and promoter

  • Has made a difference in the lives of people in Willcox

  • Attained recognition outside of Willcox

    Out-of-town favorite son/ daughter award qualifications:

  • Was born in Willcox, or

  • Spent the majority of his/her growing up years in Willcox

  • Attended or graduated from high school in Willcox

  • Considers Willcox his/her "hometown"

  • Is a Willcox supporter and promoter

  • Has made a difference in people's lives

  • Attained recognition in his/her life's occupation/location.

    Both in-town and out-of-town awards will not be given unless another sponsor comes forward. The Arizona Range News will choose one person who most reflects the spirit of the awards, whether it be an in-town or out-of-town person.

    Coaches needed for U-12 youth soccer

    Coaches are needed for AYSO's U-12 teams. There are currently 30 players signed up for Under 12-aged youth soccer and no coaches. Please contact Monica Pacheco at 507-2123 if you are available to coach.

    Theology & Toast on Tuesday

    The Willcox United Methodist Church, 124 S Curtis, invites you to join us for "Theology & Toast on Tuesday". Participants meet for a light breakfast and Bible study on Tuesday mornings in the fellowship hall from 7 - 8 a.m. Starting Sept. 7, we will begin a study of the Pentateuch or the first five books of the Old Testament using the Inductive Study Series by Kay Arthur.

    AWANA Club starts Thursday

    Willcox AWANA Club is starting Sept. 2 at First Baptist Church, 321 W. Maley St. Club Night is from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

    All children ages 3 years old to 6th grade are welcome.

    Wesleyan Preschool yard sale

    A Yard Sale to benefit Wesleyan Preschool and Childcare Center will held Friday, Sept. 17, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 18, 8 a.m. to noon, at the WUMC fellowship hall on Maley and Curtis streets. Furniture, clothing, toys, tools, and treasures.

    RAD softball tournemant

    The 59th Annual Rex Allen Days Softball Tournament will be a men's 15-team, double-elimination tournament located at Quail Drive Sports Park on Saturday, Oct. 2 and Sunday Oct. 3.     Willcox Fall Clean-up is Saturday, Sept. 26 at 7:30 a.m. starting in Railroad Park. Trash bags willbe passed out and the dumpster will be parked on the corner of Stewart and Railroad Avenue.

    Mark your calendars! Possibly the most important political action you will take other than voting on election day! Wednesday, Oct. 13 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. - All Voters - All Candidates - All Parties are welcome to a "Non-partisan" Meet and Greet at the Willcox Community Center, 2 Blocks west of Haskell Avenue (Business-10) on Stewart Street in Willcox.

    The community center ballroom has ample room for candidates, parties and ballot measures, initiatives and causes to set up displays. There will be tables set up throughout the room and there are plenty to go around. Set up will begin at 4:30 p.m. and the Meet and Greet will begin at 5:30 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.
