Why we protect our public employees Not too long ago it was a common contention that working for the government offered more security than compensation compared to a private sector job. Why Can't He Date Whoever He Wants? Dear Jim: I'm an assistant manager in a chain restaurant. We recently hired a young cashier that I'm becoming attracted to, and I can tell she feels the same way about me. The problem is, there's a corporate policy against managers dating people who report to them. I can understand them worrying about a manager pressuring an employee to go to bed with them, but I would never do that. If she didn't want to see me outside of work, I guarantee you I could take no for an answer. I'm not a pushy guy. My question is, can they legally prevent me from going out with whoever I want to? It just doesn't seem right. ("Bobby")LETTERS
